What to Expect:

I'd like to see a counselor. What is the process for setting up a session?

  • Reach out to us via phone, text, email, or through our convenient contact form on this site. One of our counselors should get back to you within 24-48 hours.
  • We'll have a conversation, hear a little bit more about what issue you're dealing with and what you're hoping to get out of counseling, and answer any questions you might have.
  • If it seems like we're a good fit for your needs, the next step will be to schedule a first session.
  • Your counselor will give you instructions about filling out forms to bring with you to the first session.

How long are your sessions?

Most sessions are 50-60 minutes long. There are a few exceptions to this. Sometimes a counselor will schedule 90-minute sessions for couple or family counseling. Or at times a counselor will schedule 30-minute sessions for a child. Fees will be adjusted accordingly.

How frequently would I come in?

One session a week is typical. Other arrangements would be made directly with your counselor.

I'm looking for Christian counseling. Are all of you Christians?

Yes, we are all Christians, and we all earned our degrees at Christian seminaries. If you are looking for someone who understands the Christian faith from the inside, and who affirms biblical values, you've come to the right place!

What if I want to see you, but I'm not a Christian?

We see clients of a wide variety of faiths or with no formal faith.  We respect all people, no matter their background, and are sensitive to every individual's needs. We would love to work with you!

Rates, Fees & Insurance:

How much do you charge per session?

The cost per session varies. We offer a sliding scale based on annual household income. (The sliding scale may vary depending on which counselor you're seeing.)

What if I can't afford the sliding scale rate for my income level?

Thanks to donor support, we are able to offer scholarships on a limited basis for people who can't afford the sliding scale rate. Any lowered fees are approved for a predetermined number of sessions (anywhere from 5-15), and then will be reviewed to make sure we still have funding to continue to offer the lower rate. Talk with your therapist regarding availability of scholarships.

Do you take credit cards?

Yes, we accept cash, check or any major credit card.

Do you take insurance?

None of our counselors are "in network" with any insurance providers. However, IF you have a PPO that allows you to go "Out of Network" for mental health treatment, our counselors can provide you with documentation (called a superbill) that you would submit to your insurance company for partial reimbursement of your sessions. You would still pay your counselor in full out of pocket at the time of your session.

If you want to pursue this option, we encourage you to call your insurance company in advance of any sessions to verify your benefits and determine what they will and will not cover. Then please speak with us further if you would like to explore this option.

Questions to ask your insurance provider might include:

  • Does my health insurance plan provide mental health benefits?
  • To use mental health benefits, must I see an "in network" provider, or can I go "out of network?"
  • Are only certain mental health diagnoses covered?
  • Does my plan allow only a certain number of sessions per year?
  • If I submit a superbill from my out of network provider, showing that I paid my provider for services, will I be able to receive reimbursement?

Why don't you take insurance?

As our health care system currently works, we believe there are significant benefits to both you and to our agency to not going through insurance companies.

Such benefits include:

  • You can control your care -- choose your own therapist and your own length of treatment.
  • Any mental health diagnosis will not automatically be included on your mental health record.
  • You can come to therapy for any issues that you want to work on, even if those issues do not fall under a diagnosable mental health diagnosis. If you go through insurance, showing "medical necessity" is required so you must have a mental health diagnosis.
  • Reduced paperwork for our agency.
  • A higher level of privacy and confidentiality (although exceptions to confidentiality still apply), since your counselor does not need to provide updates to an insurance company regarding your progress.
  • You can continue in therapy until your goals are met, without fear of reaching the limit of sessions that your insurance will cover.

Tell me about a Good Faith Estimate?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.

Do you have other questions that aren't covered here?

We would be happy to talk with you further.
